Dual Credit Enrollment Program

The Dual Credit Enrollment Program is made available to high achieving juniors and seniors to have the opportunity to enroll in dual credit courses at approved college and universities. Students will earn both college and elective high school credits. This policy strives to maintain the academic rigor of MCS while also giving flexibility for students who wish to accelerate their post-graduation learning.   Students entering their Junior or Senior years are eligible to participate in dual enrollment opportunities. Students must contact Beth George, the Director of Student Services for approval and to begin the application process.

PREREQUISITE
  • Students must have a 3.0 GPA to be eligible to participate in dual enrollment courses.
  • Dual enrollment credits must be declared by the student to the school prior to beginning the class for it to be considered.
  • Students entering their Junior or Senior years are eligible to participate in dual enrollment opportunities.

PROCESS
  • The student/parents are responsible for all tuition fees, book fees, etc. and any transportation involved for off campus classes.
  • MCS offers a set of core courses and dual enrollment is meant to complement those core courses, not as replacements to them. For that reason, dual enrollment courses, with the exception of the STEM program, are only to be applied to elective courses offered at MCS.
  • Credits from other Universities may be accepted with pre-approval from the student services department and administration authorization.
  • Either 3 or 4 credit college level courses will be valued at ½ high school credit, only to be applied to elective courses. 2 credit college level courses are to be considered 1/3 high school credit, only to be applied to elective courses.
  • Academic eligibility for students involved in athletic programs while also taking dual enrollment courses will be determined by weighting grades from courses being taken at MCS.
  • Students entering their Junior year may take up to 4 dual enrollment courses. These courses may be split by taking up to 2 during the summer prior to the junior year (Equaling 1 high school elective credit). The 4 dual enrollment courses are not to exceed the equivalent of 2 high school elective course credits.
  • Students entering their Senior year may take up to 6 dual enrollment courses. These courses may be split by taking up to 2 during the summer prior to the senior year (Equaling 1 high school elective credit). The 6 dual enrollment courses are not to exceed the equivalent of 3 high school elective courses.
  • It is the responsibility of each student along with their family to ensure that dual enrollment courses will be transferrable to universities and colleges of their choosing.
